Investigation Blog Post 20

Introduction: This week’s blog post is about the comedy genre. I don’t think I’ve done this genre before, and my brother Charlie loves comedy movies. He is obsessed with Adam Sandler and has seen a lot of his movies. Think his obsession with comedy (and Adam Sandler) really started with the movie Big Daddy. He would watch it for a few days in a row. Comedy is really a fun genre of movies and it’s great for big laughs and any type of comedy. Types of comedy are slapstick, parody, spoof, satire, irony, sarcasm, farce, dark comedy, and surrealism. Comedy can be done in a lot of different ways and sometimes can be funny or sometimes fail to make people laugh. There’s a lot that makes a comedy, a comedy.

Inspirations: I think that Charlie was my definite inspiration for this blog post so in honor of him. I decided to find a list of the top 10 comedies. Here is the list: https://www.themanual.com/culture/best-comedy-movies-of-all-time/

  • A Night at the Opera

  • Blues Brothers

  • Monty Python and the Holy Grail

  • Tommy Boy

  • Dumb and Dumber

  • Caddyshack

  • Doctor Strangelove, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

  • The ‘Burbs’

  • National Lampoon’s Vacation

  • The Big Lebowski

Brainstorming/Experimentation: I feel like one day if I could make a comedy with my brother I think that would be a lot of fun. We both have different ways we like movies and it’s definitely interesting parallels. I do think that given the chance comedy would be a fun experience. Although I don’t necessarily watch a lot of comedy, I did want to have an honorable mention of one of my favorite tv shows of all time: The Good Place. My mom got me and Charlie (well mostly me) hooked onto the show and I love it so much. It’s one of the shows I’ve watched that made me cry at the end. There’s not a lot of shows that I’ll actually really enjoy but this is definitely one of them. If you like comedy, or even if you don’t I highly recommend it. Comedy is fun and I don’t know exactly how I’d make one, but I’m always open to possibilities.

Reflection: This week’s blog post was the main inspiration from my brother Charlie since I’m starting to lose ideas for the blog posts, to be honest. I do really comedy though when I feel like I need to laugh. I do also like Adam Sandler movies, though not as much as Charlie. Comedy movies are always fun for a good laugh and can really cater to any type of comedy you enjoy. Making a comedy with my brother would defiantly be fun to try and I do enjoy these movies. Of one of the most recent comedies we watched I really liked 50 First Dates I think it was a good mix of comedy and also being really light-hearted. I do think Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore do make a good duo for films. Overall I do really like the comedy genre and can be for most people.

Work Log: I’m going to finish getting my list of clips together and finalize my script to make sure everything makes sense.
