Investigation Blog Post 10

Introduction: This week’s blog post is about found footage films. Found footage films are very unique films and use a lot of creativity. A lot of the time found footage films are made to look like there real footage rather then actors. Mostly found footage is used for horror films and say that the footage is from the victims are from some sort of attack or disappearance. These films could be any kind of stories. Its also really amazing that a lot of the time the actors have to improvise and they have to carry the whole film since they have to make most of the connect themselves. Found footage films are really incredible and fun. I actually made a found footage film in film in film 2 (I think it was film 2).

Inspiration: Here are some found footage films that I've watched or found that looked interesting:

  • Paranormal Activity Movies

  • The Rec Series

  • Unfriended 1+2

  • The Blair Witch Movies

  • Megan is Missing

  • Grave Encounters 1+2

  • Quarantine 1+2

There's definitely a wide selection of found footage films out there. Out of those on the list I think Paranormal Activity was definitely a really amazing series (except for the last one movie). The Rec series is also a really creative Spanish found footage series. The Quarantine series is the American version of it, but the original one was better. Some of these films are also based of of true events so that make's it a more nerve racking to watch. What I like about these films is that most of these are realistic and actual reasons why these characters would be in these situations. Sometimes the thing that's chasing them or a person causing things to happen aren't seen either in these films so where on the edge of our seats waiting to see what happens next.

Brainstorming/Experimentation: Since I've made a found footage film before I can say that it is fun to make, but it is difficult to improve sometimes. I have had to improve a good deal so I have gotten better, but its still difficult sometimes. I would definitely make another found footage film since you can put a lot of creativity into it. A lot of the time you just need a basic storyline and then the actors have to take that and make a film that will eventually lead up to that ending that you want. The Blair Witch Project is a good example of that or Unfriended. The actors in both movies really put there all into their performance and it looks real. Anther reason they look so realistic is because most of the time the actors in the movies  aren't known that much so it seems like they are truly real people in these situations.

Reflection: Overall this blog post was a lot of fun to look at, since I love found footage films, and I've made one myself. One of the best things about these films is that there always this sort of unknown aspect about the story so the story is always keeping us on the edge of your streets. Also sine most of them claim to be real or based of real events makes it even better. Making a found footage film would be really fun project. One of the most creative and realistic found footage movie I've seen is Unfriended since it used the internet to make us scared of what it can really do to us. Making the films realistic is always one of the reasons it really works. A series that wasn't that good was Quarantine since it was mostly just copying the Spanish series Rec, since it mostly copied Rec word of word. Found footage films are amazing and a fun film genre to watch and to make.

Work Log: This week I started working on the script for my next film.
