Investigation Blog Post 11

Introduction: This weeks blog post is about Christmas movies since this is our last blog post of this year. Christmas movies always make the season better. There are so many iconic Christmas movies that are watched during this season. Its tradition for most families to watch Christmas movie (who celebrate it). Christmas movies are fun ways to get in the mood for Christmas time and spread Christmas cheer. Christmas movies are films that engage with Christmas in multiple ways. Normally, they’re set during Christmas, show a great deal of Christmas iconography (Christmas trees, Santa, etc), play at least one Christmas song, and implement at least one Christmas movie trope–usually dysfunctional families or returning home for Christmas. A few of the most-debated movies in this category are Die Hard (as the title suggests), Love Actually, It’s a Wonderful Life, and Gremlins.

Inspiration: I decided to list some Christmas movies, their directors and writers:

  • Elf- was directed by Jon Favreau and was written by David Berenbaum.

  • Home Alone- was directed by Chris Columbus and others and written by John Hughes.

  • The Nightmare Before Christmas- was directed by Henry Selick and written by Caroline Thompson.

  • Christmas Vacation- was directed by Jeremiah S. Chechik and written by John Hughes.

  • A Christmas Story- was directed and written by Bob Clark and others.

  • Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer- was directed by Larry Roemer and others and was written by Johnny Marks.

  • The Muppets Christmas Carol- was directed by Brian Henson and written by Jerry Juhl.

  • Scrooge- was directed by Brian Desmond Hurst and written by Leslie Bricusse and Charles Dickens.

  • White Christmas- was directed by Michael Curtiz and written by Irving Berlin.

  • Claymation Christmas- was directed by Will Vinton and written by Ralph Liddle.

  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas- was directed by Ron Howard and written by Jeffery Price and others.

Some of these movies I watch every year and sometimes we don't get to them. I just recently watched Die Hard for the first time and it definitely is a fun move to watch for Christmas. And then movies like Elf and Christmas vacation or Home Alone could give you some comical relief over holiday stress. Some people despicable certain movies as Christmas that others wouldn't. Whatever you consider a Christmas movie is your choice.

Experimentation/Brainstorming: Christmas movies are really fun to watch and to make it looks like. I don't know if I’d ever make a Christmas, but it would be a fun project to do with family. A lot of Christmas movies follow the theme of family and or learning a lesson. That's why they seem to be watched over and over again since families like to watch family movies. I good example for my family is that its a definite must to watch White Christmas, its one of our favorite movies, and it also follows that theme. There's also movies that aren't necessarily Christmas movies, but are still counted as ones anyways. It all depends on what you would prefer to watch during the holiday sessions. Christmas movies are a fun genre of movies because really it depends on what you would call Christmas movies or not.

Reflection Page: Looking at the Christmas genre of movies was fun since it is the Christmas season. There's some debates on what movies are Christmas movies, but whatever you classify as Christmas in your house is what you watch. I would maybe make a Christmas movies just for fun with my cousins or something, but for right know the movies we have are enough. Christmas movies follow that theme of family and learning lessons and they are most often explored in holiday movies. There's live action, Claymation, animated Christmas movies galore. Some of my favorite movies to watch around Christmas is the Barbie Christmas movies since they remind me of when I was little and past Christmases. Christmas is just an overall fun holiday where you can watch movies and do other fun activities with friends and family. Since this year us more difficult to spend time with your family due to COVID just remember that soon you will be able to see them and you can always call or text them.

Work Log: I finished up my script and my storyboard and locations for my film.
