Investigative Blog Post 2

Brainstorming/Introduction:

For this blog post I want to look into the art of history captured in film. History that happened in real life, history that's been made up. In this investigation I am going to look at movies and the directors that brought these worlds to life and into the film world. Looking into the different ways that directors and creators have brought history to life through film. Viewing these different techniques will give inspiration for others to create history films of their own. Fantasy or real life history.

Inspiration Artists:

The first film series I looked at was The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit series. These two series tell the story of J.R.R.Tolkien, and tell us the history of the hobbits, elves, man, dwarfs, and the journeys that have to take to defeat the danger that seeks to destroy their home. The directors of these series collectively did an amazing job bringing the history and world to life; Peter Jackson, Andy Serkis, Cate Blanchett, Philippa Boyens, Thomas Robins, and Richard Taylor.

Another amazing film, and soon to be series (when the next few come out), tells of the story of a team that explores a new plant and habitat. It shows us the history of this new fantasy world and gives us this amazing masterpiece of a film. The director of Avatar is James Cameron. He brought us movies like titanic, aliens, terminator, and more.

Looking at actual history, I wanted to also look at directors that have brought history to the big screen. There are a lot of movies based on true events and movies that don't exactly take part in history but show parts of history. When looking up movies discovering history in film are films like; Tesla, 1917, Lincoln, First Man, The Founder, and more. There's also documentaries, which are showing history, not remaking it but showing and reflecting on these events. There are so many different types of ways you can showcase and the way we all look at history is different.

Experimentation:

I like to watch documentaries and when I watch them I like to think about the history behind them and how this documentary is showing us these events. With history there are different approaches to take it. You could take it a darker way, a heroic way, a story of one person's journey, a group of events, and even more. A film I really like to take inspiration from is Pan's Labyrinth. It takes real history and fantasy history and makes it into one film, and that's what I'm going to experiment with and try in my film. With my first film fantasy and history will be one thing, although the fantasy won't be there as much as the telling of a showing of history it will still be showcased.

Process/Reflection:

What i've done this year for film so far has been good preparation for the creation of our films. We read about themes in films and we get to research and write our films on what theme spoke to us the most. Picking our theme we get to have freedom to create whatever, whether it be syfy, horror, crime, history, and more. The process I've made so far on my script and the ideas I have gotten from research directors and movies gives me a good idea of what my films are going to be like. For this blog post I want to look into the art of history captured in film. History that happened in real life, history that's been made up, and more.
